This relief depicts a little pediment with a depiction of the three major divinities of the Roman pantheon. At the centre there is Jove –Zeus- with one of his attributes, the eagle. On his side there are Juno with her head veiled, and Minerva with her helmet and round shield. At the side of the triad there are Castor and Pollux, the Dioscuri. The relief was probably inspired to the pediment of the Capitoline temple, after the Domitian’s reconstruction. |

Few days ago we got this nice surprise of looking at this legion of passionate of roman history performing by the coliseum.
In Rome there is an association of lovers of ancient roman history, the Gruppo Storico Romano, who study and reenact the ancient imperial times doing research, creating their faithful costumes and performing in the most important historical anniversary. They're located on the old Appian way, where they've a little museum and a training field to teach the guests the gladiatorial art. It's certainly one of the most intriguing and exciting experiences for families visiting the city. This year St. Peter basilica's nativity is particularly beautiful.
I saw it two days ago while last week it was still under work... The sky is magic with all these glittering lights... The painter, Domenico Tintoretto, son of the famous Jacopo, painted the picture ( signed in the lower left) about 1598, during his stay in Mantua.
